Going Green

1 Feb 2008

'Green' is the new white for 21st century weddings. In the age of global warming, brides are choosing to walk down the aisle leaving a lighter carbon footprint. That means making 'something new' from 'something borrowed' - like reworking a gorgeous vintage lace dress, using recycled paper for your wedding invitations and opting for more natural menus and accessories, like organic produce and seed bon bons.

"One of our latest ideas is to use garden seeds as a wedding favor, which guests can plant in honour of the bride and groom. They're Australian native seeds that don't require a lot of water. For those couples who have a strong environmental conscience, it's a wonderful way to honour their values," says Marisa.

A Lavish Affair has also created 'green' wedding favours by wrapping organic handmade soap in old French newspapers for a beach wedding in Tasmania.

"The couple used recycling as part of their wedding theme. She wore her mother's wedding dress, which we had revamped with natural fabrics. And wrapping the soap bon bons in vintage French newspapers simply added a touch of class.

"
Marisa says organic tea balls wrapped in gorgeous sheer muslin bags are another unique way to commemorate your wedding day.

"When you drop the tea ball in water, it opens up into a flower, which looks stunning. It's also a lovely symbol of the marriage in new bloom."

And of course what better way for guests to reminisce about your wedding, than sitting down with a relaxing pot of tea.
